First Bud to Fruit – the seasonality of orcharding

The orchard season starts in winter, pruning ensures a bountiful crop.

With the first warm days the peaches blossom…

and soon enough the flush of spring growth.

As the leaves bud, the fruit sets and from an early age the fruit’s character is known… these are apples…

and these are pears, see their shape?

All through spring they grow and grow, fruit and leaf also.

Then summer’s here, so sweet and juicy -santa rosa plums, the first to ripen

Then the apples, their rosy cheeks signal our season’s finest.

And as the last apples falling… autumn has arrived.

Now the persimmons brilliant colours, fruit as well as foliage

But beware the unripe persimmon… except Fuju eat only soft!

And the nuts trees too, lose both fruit and foliage, winter has arrived.
